2016 RBF Baby

The quality of event horses has changed so much since the inception of this sport. Even since I’ve been competing the quality of horse has improved. The competitive track horses are out there, but there are fewer and fewer of them.

As the quality of horse improves so do their price tags. Unfortunately, we cannot drop 30K, 20K, 15K or even 10K on a young horse to bring along. Instead, Betsy and I have decided to breed the horses we want.

Don’t get me wrong. Breeding is still quite expensive, and the results are obtained over many years, but it will also give us the horses we want and allow us to bring them along as we like to bring young horses along. It’s also very exciting!

This year we have one baby due early June out of our thoroughbred mare Alymende by a German Holsteiner stallion Quite Easy. We are not alone in the eventing community in picking this stallion. Jennie Jarnstrom's 3* mare Penelope is by Quite Easy; Quite Easy has fathered more than one of West Coast rider Barb Crabo's mounts; additionally Doug and Jessica Payne have recently purchased a yearling by Quite Easy named Quiberon, which is beautiful and they are very excited about.
